It’s Not Too Late To Be A Next Gen’er
November 03, 2009
If you are between the ages of 18 and 40 years old and you are passionate about making Edmonton a city of choice for young people, you have until November 9 to apply and be part of Edmonton Next Gen.
Next Gen is currently recruiting up to four new community members to sit on the steering committee and give voice to what really matters in Edmonton. The committee is a community-based initiative of the City of Edmonton that encourages young people to be leaders and take action in shaping their city.
The committee is made up of 24 members who either represent the community or The City of Edmonton.
Applicants should have:
- A willingness to assume a leadership role on projects, initiatives and events and be able to work with volunteers with various backgrounds.
- Previous board or committee experience and/or experience working with volunteers.
- A willingness to be an action-oriented community liaison to the Committee and provide leadership and support to work of both the Committee and its working groups.
- A flexible schedule and be available to attend monthly meetings on the second Monday of each month between 11:30am and 1:30pm, as well as evening monthly meetings. Additional meetings may be held at the call of the co-chairs.
- An availability of at least 10 hours of volunteer time per month.
- An ability to participate on at least one working group of the Next Gen Initiative. Working groups meet once a month for 2 hours and these meetings are held on a regular monthly basis in the evening. Working groups are composed of 2-3 Committee members as well as community volunteers. A working group focuses on one aspect of Next Gen's strategic priorities: advise, empower and engage.
All members serve a two-year volunteer term. Lunch or dinner is provided at meetings. Members are also required to participate and represent Next Gen in internal or external consultations, focus groups and stakeholder meetings, public events and media.
As a member of Edmononton’s Next Gen you will have the opportunity to contribute to making Edmonton the place for young people to live, work and grow, the opportunity to meet new people and work on a variety of exciting projects, and the chance to apply your knowledge and skills.
If you are interested in applying to sit on the Next Gen Committee, please fill out the application package by November 9, 2009.
Interviews by the nominating committee will be held during the week of November 15.
