Win High-Speed Ride at Edmonton Indy
July 17, 2009
Enter City contest by using Twitter
The City is giving two people the chance to experience the thrill of a pace car ride at the Rexall Edmonton Indy in a contest using the social media site Twitter. Edmontonians are invited to tweet a favorite moment about living here as part of edmontonstories.ca.
“We’ve had great response to edmontonstories.ca already,” said Carol Hurst, a Senior Communications Advisor with the City of Edmonton. “Twitter allows us to reach new people and collect stories about Edmonton in a completely different way.”
The winners will ride with an Indy Racing League licensed driver as they make a lap around the track, seeing and feeling the speed, thrills, turns and straight-aways firsthand.
Contest participants are asked to tweet “Your Edmonton moment in 140 characters or less”. The tweet can be anything from a sentence describing a special Edmonton experience to a poem. The more creative, the better! Twitterers should describe a moment that says something to them about the city. All twitterers have to do is add the hashtag #yegmoment anywhere in their tweet to qualify for the contest.
Blogger Mack D. Male and Brittney LeBlanc of iNews880 along with Edmonton Journal columnist Paula Simons will judge the entries and decide on the two lucky winners.
Contest deadline is Wednesday, July 22 at midnight. The rides are scheduled for Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25. Each prize includes a two-person day pass to the Indy.
The tweeted contest entries will be compiled on the Edmontonstories website.
People are also encouraged to send written and video entries to Edmontonstories, an initiative to raise awareness of Edmonton and build pride in our city. The first part of the campaign is gathering stories of Edmonton moments that have inspired people to live here or visit. The second part is to share those stories online to inspire others to consider living or visiting in Edmonton.
