Edmonton Students Imagine Our Future

May 19, 2009

Imagine Edmonton in 2030.

That’s the ‘homework’ being assigned to Edmonton students on May 20 at 9:30 a.m. when “Edmonton 2030 – It’s Our Time” debuts in Edmonton Public and Catholic schools, and is simulcast on Accesstv.ca.

Edmonton 2030 – It’s Our Time is a provocative video that challenges viewers to consider the many positive attributes of our city and how we might imagine them in the future. The video links the ideas of the leaders of some of Edmonton’s major organizations and institutions with the hopes, dreams and imagination of Edmonton’s youth.

While developed independently, the video is a sub-component of edmontonstories.ca, the initiative launched by the City and Edmonton Economic Development Corporation on May 14, to promote Edmonton through stories illustrating the experiences of our city.

“Imagining the future contributes to our sense of pride, place and purpose,” says Doug Goss, Edmonton 2030 show creator. “Edmonton’s sense of purpose can come from our young people, telling their stories and hopes for the future.”

The program is produced by Edmonton based Aquila Productions and hosted by local television personality Craig Simpson.  It will be re-aired on May 23 at 7:00 p.m. on Access.

Edmonton 2030 evolved as an independent initiative through the visionary efforts of Doug Goss, a tireless community leader and Edmonton booster, who defined the Edmonton 2030 concept. Financial support and contributions for Edmonton 2030 came from a range of sponsors including the City of Edmonton, the University of Alberta, NAIT, MacEwan, the Province of Alberta, and Alberta Health Services.
