The 2009 Municipal Census is Now Complete

Thank you to all who participated!

By establishing complete and accurate population data, the City can make informed decisions about delivering services such as transit, roads, recreational facilities and emergency response. Current census information also ensures we receive appropriate funding from other orders of government. School boards and businesses use census information for planning purposes.    

2009 Census Results

Edmonton's official population was 782,439 on April 1, 2009, an increase of 30,027 since last year.

This is substantial growth, compared to average growth in previous years. The population growth is an indicator of Edmonton’s stability in the midst of the current economic climate.
