Transportation Services

Department Mandate

Transportation Services provides a safe, reliable and integrated transportation network designed to meet the needs of Edmonton’s citizens and the future demand of an increasing population.

Transportation Services plans and operates Edmonton’s roads, sidewalks, multi-use trails, bicycle infrastructure and transit system. It also works to reduce traffic congestion and collisions, and promote efficient, sustainable and active ways to travel.

Branches

Transportation Planning
Transportation Planning develops long-term plans and policies to guide all modes of transportation in Edmonton. Through key planning initiatives and the Transportation Master Plan (TMP), Transportation Planning sets the vision and long term goals for Edmonton's transportation system.

Transportation Operations
Transportation Operations is responsible for the daily operation of Edmonton's road network. It ensures that thousands of pedestrians, motorists and cyclists can move safely and efficiently in the city.

Edmonton Transit System (ETS)
ETS operates a variety of public transportation services including buses, Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Disabled Adult Transportation Services (DATS). This branch provides customer focused, safe, reliable and affordable public transportation services that link people, jobs and communities.

LRT Design & Construction
LRT Design and Construction provides project management services for planned and approved LRT projects. This branch manages contracts for design and construction, identifies and evaluates project delivery strategies, and coordinates construction with other city departments and utilities.

Road Design & Construction
Roads Design and Construction provides detailed design and project management services for road projects including major road and bridge renewal, interchange construction, neighbourhood renewal and rehabilitation, slide repair, and erosion control. This branch manages contracts, controls capital budget for client Department projects, and determines project delivery method options.
