Interact with Council

There are a number of options for you to get involved with the government of your city, and City Council encourages your participation. Council knows the value of a healthy dialogue between the municipal government and its citizens. Input from members of the public enables Council to gain the best possible perspective on the issues under their consideration.

Public hearings and community meetings allow Council to canvass a wide segment of the community. Everyone is welcome to attend. This is one way in which Council opens the decision-making process to public consultation. If you wish, you may speak at one of these hearings, or request permission to speak to an item on a Council Committee or Public Hearing agenda. Your request must be in reference to a specific item on an agenda about which you wish to make your presentation. You may also phone the Citizen Action Centre or any Council member, write an e-mail or a letter, submit a petition or meet directly with a Councillor.

To ensure that your message is heard in its appropriate context by the right people, the City offers you some basic guidelines. Before submitting correspondence or requesting permission to speak, find out the best method of communicating your concern and discover how to get your ideas considered by Council.
