Edmonton's Poet Laureate
Roland Pemberton is Edmonton's third Poet Laureate.
Pemberton is a musician, record producer, writer and poet. He is a lifelong Edmontonian whose hip hop albums have been nominated for numerous awards – and he was the unanimous choice of the Poet Laureate selection committee.
"This guy will bring poetry to a whole new audience and challenge the rest of us on our conventional perception of what it means to be a poet," says Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel. "We want young Edmontonians to be involved in shaping our City. I know our new Poet Laureate is going to be a great Edmonton ambassador to the rest of the world."
Pemberton's two-year term as Poet Laureate began on July 1, 2009.
