Department Mandate

Community Services is a front-line partner with citizens and communities committed to creating a safe, healthy, and vibrant city. On any given day, the Community Services Department manages hundreds of activities in its commitment to serving the people of Edmonton and making a difference, every day.

Branches

Fire Rescue Services
Makes Edmonton a safer city by protecting life, property and the environment - on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to respond to emergencies. In addition to frontline operations, Fire Rescue also engages citizens with fire prevention programs and public education initiatives.

Neighbourhood & Community Development
Works to strengthen individuals, neighbourhoods and communities, support neighbourhood aspirations, and engage people in the development of their communities.

Community Facility Services
Creates vibrant places through the development and operation of City-owned cultural attractions, sports and fitness facilities, golf courses, and cemeteries.

Community Strategies
Serves diverse and inclusive communities through leadership of and investment in communities of interest, research, planning and policy development, coordination of key marquee events and festivals, the nurturing of relationships with Aboriginal people, and the management of department processes, measurement and evaluation.

Community Standards
Contributes to a safe community and civil society by ensuring that safety, security and stewardship of private and public property is upheld as outlined in the Municipal Government Act, other provincial legislation, and City bylaws.

Parks
Manages and preserves parks in Edmonton’s neighbourhoods and in the river valley. The Branch vision is to have parks that breathe life into a vibrant Edmonton, and it works through honesty, respect, and trust.
