Buildings and Landscape Services

Branch Overview

Buildings and Landscape Services provides planning and project management services to other City departments to design and build civic facilities and landscape public green spaces. The branch is the City's representative for building and open space projects to ensure citizens receive a good quality product for good value. The branch is also responsible for the maintenance and rehabilitation of City facilities.  

Key activities in the branch include:

Buildings Design and Construction

• acts as the City's project manager during the rehabilitation of existing facilities and the design and construction of new City facilities, including multi-purpose recreation facilities
• administers design and construction contracts to make sure the end product meets stakeholder needs, the project is within budget and on-schedule, and the process completed within all required regulations, policies and procedures
• provides architectural technical support for City facilities, conceptual project planning services, financial and project support
• provides engineering technical support for City facilities, conducts energy assessments and upgrades and is responsible for the branch's project manuals and record drawings.

Landscape Design and Construction

• acts as the City's representative during the design and construction of City parks, sports fields and public green space 
• designs, constructs and administers contracts to build new parks and sports fields and performs upgrades to existing parks, sports fields and landscapes.
• acts as a corporate resource for landscape design and construction.

Facility Maintenance Services

• operates infrastructure component of buildings and facilities
• plans routine maintenance, preventative maintenance and capital renewal
• performs smaller rehabilitaiton and renovation projects
• manages buildings and facilities energy program
• provides custodial services for civic buildings and facilities.

Buildings and Landscape Services is responsible for the full life cycle of City buildings including concept planning, architectural/engineering services, project management, and maintenance and custodial services. The branch is also responsible for the design and construction of the City's green spaces, including all parks and the River Valley.
