Exotic Entertainers Licence
Exotic entertainment agencies, nude business agencies, exotic entertainers and nude workers are governed under the
Exotic Entertainers Bylaw 10398.
This bylaw promotes health, welfare and safety for both people and property by regulating the exotic entertainment industry through a mandatory licensing system.
Process
To obtain a licence to conduct the business of an exotic entertainment agency, a nude business agency, an exotic entertainer or nude worker, applicants must apply in person at the licence office. The licence office will take a photograph of the applicants(s) for licensing purposes.
All applicants must provide an approved Edmonton Police Service Police Information Check. Security checks from other police agencies, including the RCMP, will not be accepted.
Police Information Checks must be less than 30 days old when they are submitted.
Applicants will also be required to produce proof of identity. All applicants for an Exotic Entertainer or Nude Worker Licence will have to provide the name, address and telephone number of the licensed agency that they are booking through.
All exotic entertainers or nude workers must operate through a licensed agency.
When the applicant for an agency licence is a corporation, partnership or sole-proprietorship, all corporate documents must be produced at the time of application. In all cases, no application will be commenced unless all required documentation is present.
Fees
- Exotic entertainment or nude business agency fee is $4,612 per year.
- Exotic entertainer or nude worker fee is $127 per year.
- An administration fee of $35 is charged per occurrence for any changes that are made to the licence issued or to the information on file.
- Note that partial payments are not accepted for any licences. You must pay the fee in full when you apply or renew.
The following fees are effective January 1, 2011:
- Exotic entertainment or nude business agency fee is $4,704 per year.
- Exotic entertainer or nude worker fee is $130 per year.
- An administration fee of $35 is charged per occurrence for any changes that are made to the licence issued or to the information on file.
- Note that partial payments are not accepted for any licences. You must pay the fee in full when you apply or renew.
Licences issued under this bylaw expires on midnight of December 31 the year it was issued, unless revoked or suspended by the Licence Inspector.
Each year, when renewing the licence, the licensee must provide a new Edmonton Police Service security clearance for everyone listed within the renewal application.
Bylaw
Enforcement action can and will be taken when a businesses is found to be operating without a licence.
A person who fails to do anything which is required by this bylaw, or who does anything which is prohibited under this bylaw, is guilty of an offense and faces the following penalties:
- First offense: A fine between $400 and $10,000, or if the fine and associated costs are not paid, imprisonment up to 60 days.
- Second and every subsequent offense: A fine between $1000 and $10,000, or if the fine and associated costs are not paid, imprisonment up to one year. This is unless, in either case, the fine and costs including the costs of committal are sooner paid.
Application
A development permit may be required in addition to the licence under the Zoning Bylaw in order to approve the location of this type of business.
The exotic entertainers agency and nude business agency licence can only be operated from a commercial location.
