PET Grant

The City of Edmonton is now offering a PET Grant for rescue groups in Edmonton. Although the City re-unites stray pets with owners through licensing and microchip programs, we rely on Pet Adoption Agencies to help find new homes for pets left unclaimed at the City's Animal Care & Control Centre.

The PET Grant is intended to help support non-profit rescue groups' efforts to find homes for pets. Traditionally local pet adoption groups services have been entirely voluntary and no payment has been made to them for their services. The PET Grant offers agencies an opportunity to apply for funds that can help them continue their good work in our community.

Important Deadlines

Applications are accepted on the 15th day of each month from August through November each year.

Applications are evaluated and funding levels are determined by the end of each month on a first-come, first-serve basis while funds are available.

Who can apply?

Pet Rescue Agencies that meet the criteria listed in the PET Grant Application.

What are the Criteria?

Proof that the Pet Rescue Agency is a registered non-profit company in Alberta; their business goal is pet rescue/adoption.
Proof of liability insurance of not less than $2 million inclusive limit for any one occurrence.
Commitment that the Agency's policy is that all dogs or cats are spayed and neutered and permanently IDed prior to being adopted into the community.
The Agency ensures that pet owners living in Edmonton license newly adopted cats and dogs with the City's Animal Care & Control Centre.
For PET Grant requests the City considers the amount of funds requested, the project budget, the reason for fund request, the benefits of the project, and the comprehensiveness of the application.

How do I apply?

Complete the PET Grant Application form.
Ensure that you include all the required supporting documentation listed on the checklist in the application.
Please sign the Use of Funds Agreement and Right to Audit Agreement in the application.
