Building and Structure
All buildings and other structures on private property must be kept in good repair to promote conservation of existing properties and ensure community safety.
Prevent buildings on your property becoming a nuisance - repair damage such as rot, wear and tear.
Derelict Buildings
Secure windows and doors using solid pieces of treated wood; apply from the exterior to keep the building waterproofed; and prevent unauthorized entry.
Clean snow and ice from every walk and driveway on or beside the property.
What is good repair?
A building in good repair means that it is in a condition where it is free from general damage, rot or other deterioration and inappropriate infiltration of air, moisture or water.
What needs to be maintained?
Maintain the building foundation and walls, exterior walls, roof, windows (including casings), doors (including frames), exterior stairs, landings, porches, balconies and decks.
All materials used in construction of any building (including any protective or decorative finishes of all exterior surfaces such as stucco, paint, and siding) should also be maintained in good repair.
Report Your Concern
Register your concern at 780-496-3100 or register an online complaint. You must provide your name, address and telephone number along with the address of the violation and a description of the problem.
Enforcement Action
A Municipal Enforcement Officer will investigate the property complaint and issue a warning notice requesting a property owner to comply and indicating what needs to be fixed and when the work needs to be completed. Failure to comply to the warning may result in a $250 ticket charged to the property owner.
