Splash Pads - Commercial

Splash pads are required to carry roof leader and sump pump discharge away from foundation walls and concrete slab-on-grade to help minimize soil erosion. The recommended standard type of splash pad is concrete and has the dimensions of 300 millimetres x 1067 millimetres.

Where no connections to the storm sewer are available to drain downspouts and sump pump discharge, splash pads are to be placed against the foundation walls at the following locations:

  • Underneath all downspouts draining onto landscaping (sod, topsoil, and/or gravel)
  • Underneath the sump pump discharge where it is draining onto landscaping (sod, topsoil, and/or gravel)

Hinged downspout extensions are not recommended as they are easily damaged or left in the up-position. However, they are acceptable provided they do not extend on to the adjacent property.
