Southwest Arena Complex – Spectator Viewing Update

September 30, 2009

A review of the budget for the Southwest Arena Complex has allowed the City to construct the mezzanine (second) level spectator viewing areas for ice rinks 3 and 4 within the project budget. These seats will be identical to the aluminum bench seating designed within ice rinks 1 and 2.

This brings the total facility spectator viewing capacity to 1382. Spectator viewing capacity is made up of warm bench seating, cold bench seating, wheelchair viewing areas and standing room.

Now that the funding has been approved, additional elements to be built on the mezzanine level between ice rinks 3 and 4 include:

  • mezzanine structural slab installation
  • exterior stairwell re-design and construction
  • recessed elevator pit and elevator installation
  • men's and women's public washrooms
  • janitor's room
  • multi-purpose room

The Southwest Arena Complex is scheduled to open fall 2010.
