Stormwater Lakes - Skating Conditions of Use

For your safety you are required to

  1. Obey posted signs. Anyone caught on the ice while the "Danger - Thin Ice" signs are posted is subject to fines under the provisions of the Sewers Bylaw.
  2. Ice thickness is monitored. Once the ice has reached a thickness of six inches, "Danger - Thin Ice" signs are removed or covered.
Caution: Open water may still exist in some locations. USERS ASSUME ALL RISK.
  3. Inlet and outlet areas should be avoided at all times as ice thickness is reduced at these locations.
  4. Users assume all maintenance responsibilities (flooding, shovelling, etc).
  5. Vehicles and 'ride-on' motorized equipment are not permitted on the ice. Small, push-model snow blowers are allowed.
  6. If melting temperatures persist for several days and ice conditions deteriorate, "Danger - Thin Ice" signs will be reinstalled and access to the lake restricted until conditions improve.
  7. The use of stormwater lakes is restricted by the Sewers Bylaw unless express permission is obtained from the City Manager.
