Trail Sweeping and Snow Clearing
Sweeping
River Valley trails are swept first thing in the spring to take any gravel, sand or debris off the paved trails to make them as safe as possible.
They are also periodically swept during the spring and summer when there are sections of trail that have too much debris or sand.
Winter Clearing
River Valley trails are cleared during the winter when the snow has accumulation of more than 2.5cm or 1 inch of snow.
Within 48 hours of a snowfall event, Parks staff start clearing the 13km Winter Jogging Loop indicated as a green line on the PDF maps below. It runs from Cloverdale to Kinsmen and Louise McKinney Park to Government House Park and includes the trails above the Victoria Golf course.
At 3am, Transportation Services contractors start at Hermitage and continue through the rest of the 37km of River Valley trails throughout the city.
