Parks and River Valley

Photo of a trail through the river valley

Edmonton's Parks breathe life into a vibrant community providing an integrated, safe environment for active living and urban wellness. The River Valley forms a "Ribbon of Green" that winds its way along the North Saskatchewan River and through the heart of the city, featuring natural areas, paved and natural trails and amenities. Wildlife sightings in the River Valley are common so bring your camera or binoculars.

Partial Fire Ban Lifted

October 9, 2009
The partial fire ban that was in effect for the City of Edmonton has been lifted
Fire Marshall Ron Jeske has said that the number of grass and brush fires has dropped significantly and the recent precipitation has changed the dry conditions that warranted the ban.

Partial Fire Ban

September 25, 2009

Edmonton's fire marshal has issued a partial fire ban in the City of Edmonton.

The partial ban is in effect city-wide due to extremely dry and windy conditions.

As a result of the partial fire ban, the following is prohibited:

  • Any fires in park areas using charcoals, briquettes or wood.
  • Open air burning, including those with existing permits.
This ban does not include:
  • Legal back yard fire pits
All citizens should be extremely cautious when using back yard fire pits, barbeques and other sources of ignition including smoking material.

Any contravention of this ban may result in fines being assessed to recoup costs associated with Fire Rescue Services being called out.
