1. Where can I host my event?

Events can be hosted at many City venues such as: picnic sites, gazebos, parks, bandshells, City Hall, Fort Edmonton Park, Heritage Amphitheatre, Muttart Conservatory, Prince of Wales Armouries, recreation centres and pools, and Churchill Square.

2. How do I book a venue for my event?

Fill out the Special Events Application Form to book a City of Edmonton Venue.

3. Do I need insurance?

All events at City venues or on City property require a minimum of $2 million liability insurance. Some events may be required to carry additional coverage.

You must provide a Certificate of Insurance in the name of the host organization and list the City of Edmonton as the third party insured.

4. How much will it cost to have my event at a City facility?

It is typically free to host an event at a City of Edmonton Facility.  Groups are billed for all services provided by the City of Edmonton.

5. Can I have liquor at my event?

Yes but with certain permissions.  Please contact the Civic Events Office to do so and for more information.

6. How do I invite the Mayor or a City Councillor to my event?

If your group would like an official representative from City Council or the Mayor to attend a public event, please view the information available on the Requests for the Mayor & Councillors webpage.

7. How do I arrange for a road closure?

If you are planning a major event or a parade you may need a road closure and an on-street construction and maintenance permit.  Please fill out a Special Events Application Form in order to arrange for any road closures.

8. Can I have a sleigh ride at my event?

Yes. Sleigh rides are permitted on streets and parkland. Operators must have $2 million in liability insurance and be licenced as a business in the City.

Operators must obtain permission from the City in advance of the event. The Traffic Operations Branch is responsible for special event road closures and detours. Phone 780-496-3305 or email traffic@edmonton.ca.

9. Can I apply for City of Edmonton Sponsorship for my event?

The City of Edmonton sponsors various events occuring in Edmonton.  For information on event sponsorship, qualifications, and the application process, visit the Sponsorship page.
