Adult Leisure Programs
If you enjoy having fun and working with seniors and adults with disabilities then this volunteer opportunity is perfect for you. This volunteer position requires you to assist senior and adults with developmental disabilities in various recreational activities such as: crafts, fitness, cards, dances, outings and much more! You will ensure the safety of all participants while helping to deliver fun, exciting programs. You will meet new people and learn a variety of new skills as you will be mentored by an experienced Program Leader.
Responsibilities:
- Complete administrative forms under the supervision of the program leader.
- Assist the program leader with preparation, maintenance and clean up of equipment and supplies.
- Assist the program leader with safety and site checks.
- Supervise and assist participants using equipment and supplies.
- Under the supervision of a program leader, volunteers will ensure participants go on their respective DATS buses.
- Assist the program leader with emergency situations.
- Communicate any problems or issues with program leaders.
Requirements:
- 18 years or older
- Must complete a Police Information Check, interview, volunteer commitment form, and a program preference form at an Open House.
- Must attend a New Volunteer Orientation Session
- Orientation to the facility is required.
- Must be comfortable and enjoy working with diverse populations of adults with developmental disabilities.
- Energetic, enthusiastic and willing to learn new things.

Mandatory Interview Night:
Volunteers will be contacted after the deadline and an interview will be arranged for September 7, 2011 at the A.C.T Aquatic and Recreation Centre between 6:00 and 10:00pm.
Mandatory New Volunteer Orientation Session:
September 14, 2011 from 6:00 – 9:00pm at the A.C.T Aquatic & Recreation Centre.
S.U.R.F. Craft Assistant
Assist adults with disabilities to create various craft projects. The program is designed for participants to express themselves creatively through art and for participants to tap into their artistic personalities.

Requirements:
Volunteers must:
- Be 14 years or older
- Be able to follow direction from staff and be receptive to feedback
- Attend the New Volunteer Orientation Session
- Complete a Police Information Check
Costume Interpreter - Individual Adult
Fort Edmonton and John Walter’s Museum
If you love history and love interacting with the public then consider volunteering at our historic attractions.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older and volunteer a minimum of 40 hours over an eight week period in the summer.

SwimAbilities Volunteers
If you would like to gain experience working with children with disabilities the SwimAbilities is the volunteer opportunity for you. As a volunteer you will be providing support & assistance to the Swim Instructor and participants in the SwimAbilities program (swimming lessons for children aged 4-14 with disabilities). Volunteers are needed to assist participants with use of equipment (i.e. pool toys, mats, PFD’s), provide encouragement to participants, and assist with songs, games, and helping participants practice skills in the water.
Requirements:
- Must successfully complete a Police Information Check
- Must attend New Volunteer Orientation and other mandatory training.
- 14 years of age or older
