Family Day Unplugged 

The City of Edmonton is proud to support Family Day Unplugged, an initiative that encourages Edmontonians to take a break from technology and spend quality time with their most important social network – their family! Examples of unplugged activities include a family board game, making crafts or participating in one of the many events happening throughout the city. 

Swing 'n' Skate

Jump and Jive at City Hall! The Edmonton Arts Council hosts a special Family Day edition of Swing ‘n Skate. C Jam Big Band will bring the swing, Sugar Swing dancers will be teaching new steps, and free skate rentals are available from 1-4pm.

Edmonton Valley Zoo

Bundle up your family, beat the winter blues and "Get Closer" for some Family Day fun! Go on a mission to find animals that love the cold. Stay warm while you visit the Polar Bear craft table and engage in some hands-on science experiments. Learn why Edmonton Valley Zoo is an Arctic Ambassador Centre for Polar Bears International and visit our free photo booth to take home a family memory!

Family Day Festivities at the Reuse Centre

Celebrate Family Day at the Reuse Centre! Join us for free drop-in activities for the whole family, including a fire breathing dragon craft, a balloon artist, facility tours, popcorn, compost tea bags and more! Plus, shop the store for items to enjoy with the family, such as board games, puzzles, books, movies and crafting supplies! Only $5 for up to 50kg.

Time: Noon-3pm

Cost: Free activities; $5 for purchases up to 50kg

Outdoor Ice Rinks

Free skating is available at City of Edmonton outdoor ice surfaces in Hawrelak, Jackie Parker, Victoria, Rundel and Castle Downs parks. Shinny players are welcome on the Hawrelak Park alternate ice surface at Shelter #2. Take a twirl on the IceWay Skating Trails, located next to the Victoria Park Oval and in Rundle Park.

Weather conditions apply. Be sure to check the online notifications or call 311 for current ice surface and toboggan hill conditions before heading out.

Edmonton Public Library

Visit your local Edmonton Public Library branch this Family Day for a special selection of free drop-in and scheduled programs. Go on a virtual adventure and scour the stacks on a digital scavenger hunt, make your own musical instrument and jam out with your family, or laugh your socks off at an entertaining puppet show. There's so much you can do, and it's all free! Take a peek at all the fun Family Day activities.

Silver Skate Festival

Celebrating its 28th year, the Silver Skate Festival is Edmonton’s longest running winter festival. Rooted in the Dutch tradition of a love of the outdoors and of experiencing winter’s cultural and aesthetic beauty, the festival has exploded into an extravaganza of art, culture, recreation and sports programming.

Family Day at the Legislature

Family Day at the Alberta Legislature promises adventure, history and entertainment around every corner! Explore the Alberta Legislature with our Lost in the Legislature History Hunt. Sing along to the captivating tunes of Michelle & Friends. Unravel the sleight of hand of magician Sheldon Casavant. Whatever you choose to do, Family Day at the Legislature promises to be fun for your whole family.

Front Yards In Bloom: Winterscapes

Bundle up the family and spend Family Day creating a wintry display in your front yard or any public space as part of the City’s fifth annual Front Yards in Bloom: Winterscapes. Visit for information about the award categories, inspirational photos and a list of cool prizes you can win.

Entries and nominations are accepted until February 25.

Family Day at the Art Gallery of Alberta

The Art Gallery of Alberta invites families to enjoy exhibitions and art activities for free in celebration of Family Day. Visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities themed after our current exhibitions.

Time: 11am-5pm (Last entry at 4pm)

Cost: Free

Transit Information

Edmonton Transit Service will run on regular Saturday schedules. Regular ETS fares apply.

Enjoy unlimited all-day travel and transfers for one adult and up to four children (ages 12 and under) with an ETS Day Pass for $9.50.
