Scientific Name: Varanus komodoensis
Habitat: Tropical savannah forests
Diet: Carrion, goats, pigs, deer, other mammals
Life span: Up to 50 years
Young: Up to 30 eggs per clutch
Size: Up to 165kg (363 lbs)

Komodo dragons are found only in the lesser Sunda region of the Indonesian Islands. They have a venomous bite and their saliva contains more than 50 different strains of bacteria. This may result in the death of an animal that has been bitten due to the venom or development of an infection. Adult komodo dragons are at the top of their food chain, although their young often fall prey to larger mammals and birds.

Fun Fact: Komodo dragons are the largest lizards on Earth!
